We're viewed as "occupators" who are there to steal Iraqi oil. This is a commonplace observation among the Iraqi people. Re: "A small segment of baathist are causing this problem." There are hordes of cheering crowds any time one of our soldiers is killed or one of our vehicles is destroyed. You're hiding from reality. Re: "US must find away not to get bogged down. An iraqi government with popular input and an iraqi military not tied to baathists needs to be created sooner rather than later." An Iraqi government with "popular input" would throw the Americans out of Iraq. That's why we keep on delaying any democracy in the country. If it were possible to quickly create an Iraqi military (that didn't protect Iraqi freedom fighters), we'd have already done it. Re: "They will take care of those who are shooting at us with dispatch." So if the situation is still f'ed at, say, the end of the year (with another couple hundred US soldiers dead), you'll agree that you were wrong? Or will you instead say that the war was sabotaged by some subgroup of the United States? The Jews, perhaps? They're a traditional scapegoat. -- Carl
