I think the first reason for going into Iraq was a part of fighting the war on terrorism. That's my opinion and I don't need 100 sarcastic posts back on that.

A side benefit will be more stable energy costs for the whole world. Lower energy costs = more profits and more jobs. The US recovery has been slow and one of the reasons is the rest of the world is still in recession. Again, my opinion.
