I do not understand why no one markets a natural-gas-driven heat pump. You would get an energy efficiency of up to 2.5, maybe higher with better machines, plus it would provide air conditioning. And running on clean gas the engine would not wear out for many years. Run the exhaust through a heat exchanger and scavenge that heat as well
