The majority are just like most Christians. However, it's a socially conservative society compared to the West and secularism has a bad rep because Hussein's regime was secular and I think secularism, or something like it, is identified with repression. But any case, Shiites, as a social grouping were suppressed, if not persecuted. The regime's broom swept very broadly.
