You have a point which seems plausible to me, a professional, volunteer army is more effective and its members have greater survivability.

You are also correct that a draft exerts great pressure on the entire population.

You are forgetting that the draft led to the demonstrations and the demonstrations forced our corrupt government and military to get us out of Vietnam.

We still have a corrupt government and military. We need the force of average Americans and their families facing a draft and going to war to prevent our leaders from making tragic mistakes like Vietnam and, maybe, Iraq.
