If the murder is a warning to others to avoid the kind of story below, it won't work.

"If in fact we went to war under false pretenses that is a very serious charge," Graham, the senior U.S. senator from Florida, told reporters in New Hampshire

I don't know who's running the Bush mafia's death squad, but they always choose the mild, easygoing guy, like Wellstone or the Enron VP, someone who everyone says was "a nice guy". Either they're cowards afraid to go after anyone who's suspicious or put up a fight, or the message to everyone else is, "look, we kill nice guys, so don't try to be a nice guy just go along with the program"

I guess a policy to kill high-profile decent folk, helps moves the game towards the kind of battlefield they want.
After all that's the policy that's worked in other take-overs around the world the last 40 years.
The more vicious you can make the game, the more you can have command-and-control gov't.
