re: The Israelis were jamming US frequencies which indicates they believed that it was a US vessel. no it is just an indication that Israel was jamming some freq some of which may or may not be used by US. USS Liberty as any other ship could have transmitted S.O.S. on any freq that they would choose. In fact Russian ship was standing by for that signal to assist US sailors. Jamming the signal is somewhat effective for disrupting tactical communication during the battle and absolutely ineffective (0, none, nada, nyet) for preventing a distress signal.
