Cy B,

In OE check:
Tools > Options > Security

If you are using Restricted site zone try Internet Zone. It's less secure but it might solve your problem.
If you stick with the Internet Zone go to: theguardianangel.com and go through your settings to make your Internet Zone in IE as secure as possible, OE will be using the same settings.

If my last suggestion didn't work check your file associations:

(In XP) Windows Explorer > Tools > Folder Options >File Types

Anything with the IE symbol should be associated w/IE .html, Internet Shortcut, .htm ect.

Have you tried cleaning up your deleted and sent folders? OE sometimes hangs when it gets overloaded.
