Kerry is not "ultra liberal", he's progressive-centrist. There's a website which gauges this for ever candidate. He's slightly to the left of center. And he's running more to the center now that at any time in his life. Why? It's not that he's trying to hide anything, he's just very aware that as president he will have to represents the whole country, all kinds of people, rather than more liberal Massachusetts. It's a responsible position. Bush meanwhile governs from the far right after runing as a moderate. That was a lie. Kerry wont change once he gets into office. Bush already did. Bush is trying to move back to the center but it's too late. He's already broken the bank with his tax cuts for the rich and cannot afford any centrist programs.

Kerry is a strong centrist-progressive. You must be thinking of Kucinich.
