You can say you have a right (anyone can), but it doesn't make it so. Rights are what is given to you, in contract, with other humans- whether in writing or in social custom, advantages, imo, are what you take- so in the field of international relations, we have an advantage in size and strength which we exploit- it is understandable why the rest of the world would not think much of that. I do not believe in rights that exist outside of the realm of human contract. If no one recognizes a right, for example, I fail to see how it exists. The idea of it exists, but the right does not. imo

In order to have buy in from other countries in the rights area( buy in that I feel is necessary for any degree of global stability) we need to agree to rights and duties- in some forum like the UN. I thought Desert Storm was a nice example of that- and this war is a horrible backwards step.
