>> I'm sorry to say this but I consider that this is a profound insult to the Chinese people. <<

You don't have to listen to me. go ask any Chinese which knows something about Chinese history, they would tell you the same thing. Wonder why so many Chinese still voluntarily hanging up Mao's picture on their wall? And I read that the poll in HK shows that even if in HK, Mao, Zhou, and Deng are still among the most respectable people for the majority?

BTW, just like I said, Chinese history is written by Chinese, and thus judged by Chinese. Foreigners can make any judgement they want. At the end, it does NOT count for the majority of the Chinese.

>>What do you hope for in the China of the near future? <<

Because CCP can clean itself within. And knows what people really want. Yes, Zhu, Hu, Wen, and many other Chinese leaders, are not democratically elected leaders, but they are just as qualified, as competent, if not more, as those who are democratically elected (e.g. Bush?).

Sorry, I am not going to talk about this further. If you do not agree with me, that is fine. Just let us agree to disagree. No need to waste our time here.

Hi Malcolm,
Only one man out of the 450,000,000 Chinese people
An end to the incessant bickering so characteristic of democracy. A people united behind their godlike leader?

Some times in life, for some things there can be only one or you are doomed to failure.

Maybe one of his rivals could have done the job but we will never know. China's success in becoming a modern civilisation will be Mao's legacy or not...

My grandfather must be rolling over in his grave as I write these words..

Yiwu may be a little ardent but Mao did start the ball rolling. I don't think the KMT solution would have provided the required catharsis in the Chinese people.

As far as The cult of the individual Well even here who votes for their MP ? Few I daresay, most likely the individual gunning for PM.. And is it really different in the US ? Doesn't the individual carry the day ?

regards
Kastel
