"You are either with us or against us"-- Judge Danworth in The Crucible by Arthur Miller, 1951. (Written after the Red Hunt in Hollywood where his fellow producers, directors, writers and actors turned each other in for past beliefs )

It made sense in fighting terrorism ... anyone harbouring a violent criminal is accomplice to his crimes, that's an old principle with good reason behind it, because you can't leave the hideouts alone and expect to enforce the law ... with Afghanistan the standard of 'hot pursuit' was particularly clear

It was when the attitude carried over beyond fighting crime, into what became apparent as an agenda previously cooked up by PNAC, and it was now clear to the Rest of Us that the neocons were using the yer with us or agin us to write themselves a blank cheque for all-encompassing future rule of the entire species, and their personal right to roll tanks across boundaries at will, that's when the jury/posse rose up and said wait a minute, what do y'all mean 'we', white man

Okay, I concede the point, though its always in context wrt the fight against terror, not other things.
