re: HEY, ALBERT! DIDN'T YOU SAY THAT, WHEN THE US WAS ASKED WHETHER IT HAD ANY SHIPS IN THE AREA, IT SAID "NO"?

yes I did and yes US said no. In NSA inquery (easy to find) indeed Israel was aware of markings. But US issue an order to Liberty not to approach Israeli shore. That order was issued after Israel informed US representative that due to the approaching war it is advisable that all US ships would stay away from potential harm. USS Liberty was removed from Israel's ships location map. It was stated by NSA that due to some bureaucratic error the order reached USS Liberty only 16+ hours after it was issued and by then it was too late.

The accident is a combination of errors on both US and Israeli sides. Israel should have been more careful with ship identification and US should have informed Israel of any possible delays with USS Liberty departure.

But the fact is that it was a tragic mistake.

There reasons that were produced by conspiracy theoreticians as why US Liberty attacked, 3 most popular are:
1)Israel did not want US to know about war
2)It was tied to some shooting
3)Israel wanted arabs to be blamed (tied to initial unmarked jets)

1)currently disclosed documents show that Israel informed US of upcoming war prior to war
2)the shootings occurred a day prior to attack on USS Liberty
3)while not visible on the 1st 2 jets the markings were clear visible on the rest of the jets and boats
