By Mary Ellen Lloyd, Of DOW JONES NEWSWIRES

CHARLOTTE (Dow Jones)--Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Inc.'s largest franchisee, Southern California developer Great Circle Family Foods LLC, has put itself up for sale, according to a published report.
Great Circle, which operates 22 stores as far north as San Luis Obispo County and as far south as San Diego County, hopes to cash in on the chain's rising popularity and is seeking $80 million, the Daily Deal newspaper reported Friday.

Representatives with Great Circle, based in Los Angeles, could not be reached immediately for comment. A Krispy Kreme spokeswoman also wasn't immediately available for comment.

The newspaper quoted unidentified sources close to the sale process as saying Great Circle wants preliminary offers by July 18 and plans to choose a buyer by late September.
