I don't care whether the people leading this country are elite, or non-elite

I actually have no problem with the idea of being led by an elite, at least as I understand the term. Why shouldn't we choose the most accomplished, knowledgeable, and educated people to lead us? I'd rather be led by those who have demonstrated their competence than by Joe sixpack, or by someone who has never accomplished anything without aid from an influential family.

I just think it's amusing that people who are by any definition members of the nation's elite class reflexively accuse their educated critics of elitism. It's certainly easier to dismiss one's opponents with a generic ad hominem slur than to address their concerns, but I don't think it's likely to be a terribly effective tactic in the long run.
