more news from the our new state of Iraq...other than the 3 new deaths in 2 days over there...
Subject: A very detailed report on Iraq

If any of us are continuing to educate ourselves on developments in Iraq,
the following report is fundamental. This is a Dept. of Defense /
Rumsfeld-sponsored assessment that was found on the web by one of the US
scholars with whom I traveled to Iraq last January. Note: It is very very
current -- July 17th. As he says, even considering the sponsors, it is a
fairly damning, and not very encouraging, report -- especially when we read
between and behind the lines. Remember, this is DOD / Rummy-sponsored
fact-finding.

It took some doing but here is the report on Iraq of the Center for
Strategic and International Studies. Given the funder, Dept of Defense,
and the initiators, Rumsfeld and Bremer, the report still represents a
pretty damning indictment.
