The sooner you come to terms with the fact you are and have always been faced with a thug element in US politics, the more hope we have as a species

what a great line........

can you name me any political system in the world anywhere or at anytime in history that didn't have a thug element in it somewhere.....fact of political life.

it is exactly why we will survive as a species.........

Mike,

Engagement with dictators is reprehensable - I don't think any of us argue that point - other than to point out that was then - this is now.

Marcos is using cold war incidents, some alleged and unfortunately some real, as a way of discrediting any actions taken today. Today some argue we should engage Cuba or North Korea or Iraq - the very thing they hold against Reagan for using abusive dictators because they were anti-communist.

No sane person should defend the atrocities committed in Argentina, but the number killed or disappeared accross all of Latin America pales besides the 'accomplishments' of the Cuban, North Korean or Iraqi's some would have us engage or negotiate with.
