Not everyone wants it. Only the heavy debtors, which include the government and many others, including all those who participated in the refi orgy. Creditors will be hurt by inflation and would prefer to avoid it.

If we get a run of hyperinflation many people will say - "screw the rich! screw the banks!" - and the Government will be the "good guy" - and will save the day by maintaining basic structures, the low and order - and, in due course, by issuing new and improved Dollars (maybe in a pretty blue color) - and the circle will start from the beginning.

I saved a recent article from the FT about deflation vs. inflation being a matter of political choice. Not sure I agree with everything there, but it is an interesting brief read.
