OT *** re >> WDC has a bid in for Read Rite assets

Gottfried,

There are posts on yahoo read-rite thread saying WD won the bid for read-rite assets @ $87m. If true, in my opinion, it would be extremely positive for wdc. The assets were carried on the books for $220m. WDC can pay $87m from this Q's cash flow, and have some $$ left over.

However, the stock may not react positively in the short run. But I think the deal is very favorable, if the price is $87m.

OT Gottfried,

The Mercury article you cited on Tuesday mentions:

"At $55 million, Western Digital's bid was higher -- and that's important when assets are being liquidated -- but it also came with contingencies.

The other bid of $52 million came with no conditions, Thompson said. In his opinion, the Hitachi-Seagate-Alps offer is the better offer because it can be finalized without the concern that it might be revoked."

Now we are hearing that the cash price WDC is paying is $95.4 million. biz.yahoo.com

Is the discrepancy caused by the Thai assets? And what about the unnegotiated debt obligations of about $62 million? (ibid) Is that included or in addition to the $95.4 million cash price?
