Don't get me wrong... action speaks louder than words, and I endorse 100% the action Bush took in taking over Iraq (and Iraq chose the terms, not our military). But to say something simplistic as "There are those in Iraq who hate the idea of Freedom" is just mindlessly simplistic. Actually, Saddam and his sons, cousins, and hangers on, LOVE the idea of Freedom. The "Freedom" to rape any woman to pass on the street that grabs their fancy. The "Freedom" to take an AK-47 to a party, kill a few guests, then go home. The "Freedom" to watch any movie you want, import any pornography you want. Yep, Saddam & Sons, they LOVE FREEDOM and a free hand. What they hate is sharing power with anyone else. What they hate is anyone opposed to letting them have their way (to quote Sandintoes, "I am all for compromise, as long as you just let me have my way."). Like Sandintoes, the Saddam Regime considers anyone who doesn't promote them is against them, and should be persecuted. The idea of "Freedom" doesn't exactly resonate with Moslems, either. Their religion (like almost all religions) is not about "free thinking", it is about obligation and submission to God's will. Why doesn't someone TELL Bush that talking about "Freedom for the Iraqi people" is about as useful as saying, "Secular thinking for the Iraqi people." The idea of 'freedom' is a secular one, and may be -useful- to an society 80% Moslem, but is not a -goal- of ANY Islamic state. Instead of always talking about Freedom and the Iraqi people, which is open to interpretation in lieu of their religion, Bush should say it something like this: "There are people in Iraq who blasphemously believe in a Saddam who is a God who should be worshipped. These people want palaces for their God Saddam Hussein bigger and more numerous than any mosques. They want portraits of Saddam, when the Koran forbids graven images. They worship this man and his sons, which is blasphemy to Islam. These Saddam supporters shoot at Americans because they worship Saddam as they would a God, and the Americans have shown that Saddam is nothing but a criminal blasphemer who deserves something worse than death for his crimes. They may claim to be Moslems, but brick by brick, portrait by portrait, they show their true selves by their actions: worshippers of a graven image, and a mere man who thinks he is greater than God. When this blasphemy ends, our job is finished and we will depart."
