Well, looks like the dollar won't strengthen, but it is not the absolute level
of value which makes problems, but the sudden moves, especially those
within both a quarter and the memory-span of consumers for regular
currency-dependent prices.

Pretty similar to the power level control on a cocktail party, those fast
unpredictable changes tend to eat a lot of capacity

I think Siemens is the last of the major handset manufacturers to report....

biz.yahoo.com

The Mobile Networks division posted a profit of EUR36 million on sales of EUR968 million, compared to a loss of EUR21 million on sales of EUR1.218 billion in the third quarter of the prior year.

The Mobile Phones division recorded sales of EUR922 million on a volume of 8.1 million handsets, similar to the level a year earlier, but posted a loss of EUR42 million. For comparison, Mobile Phones posted a profit of EUR28 million in the same quarter a year earlier.

More optmically....they are seeing a sales rate of 3.5 million units in July (on the strength of new products).
