Why is it we always get the charismatic nutcases trying to exorcise their personal demons in search of their "place in history" running for the Oval Office?

Sheesh, let's put Jerry Ford back in there for a while, he's the last guy we could trust to be a normal, decent human being. The rest of them, I wouldn't trust as far as I could spit.
