What "ad hominem"??? Have I attacked your person in any way? I am just talking about the hypothetical situation where the fireman to whom the story is told would be talking extensively about firemen in the months preceding the incident AND would be claiming nothing of the sort could ever happen to any fireman. Substitute "Cary" for "fireman" in the above paragraph, if you wish. It is will not be a personal attack, an insult, or anything else that would make my previous post "ad hominem".
