>>My experience in China tells me that China takes the long view and steers a pretty steady course, while the US all too often operates with a really short-term outlook, and takes a shoot-from-the-hip and bark-like-a-dog approach to communications -- for example Bush's expression "you're either with us or you're against us"..<<

Very good point, might have something to do with each other's history, and a lot to do with culture? China has had 2000-3000 years of history, and the current regime has been in power for merely 55 years, as they said: the horizon is far and memory is long.

While the US has had only 200+ years of history, and has been spoiled and indulgent itself in the success of being the world only superpower. Powers come and go, nothing lasts forever.
