Carolyn, >misspelled Earthlink< just get into TOOLS>ACCOUNTS>MAIL>PROPERTIES and correct the spelling.

To import favorites in IE go to FILE>IMPORT AND EXPORT and follow the wizards directions.

Outlook Express
To fix the SMTP account name, click tools.
Click accounts
Highlight the account and click properties
Click servers
make your corrections
Click OK

If you want to use Outlook for your mail program you can set the automatic message check interval as follows
Open Outlook and click tools
Click options
Click mail setup tab
Click send/receive...
Set "schedule an automatic send/receive every (2) minutes
Click close
click OK
