Hi Mike:
Mark Davis (talk show host), had an interesting comment today " Why not move out of our policeman mood in Iraq, go back on a war footing for two weeks, conduct concentrated sorties and hit the opposition really hard"
IMO we should spend more time celebrating that great victory ( of achieving the overthrow of the regime) and try to stay away from new committments to major action elsewhere.
Give the overworked and deserving troops a few months R+R., a visit home. Its 102 here, I cant imagine how they do a physical job at 120 over there.
Damn un-American, anti- Administration Press publications are not helping troops morale. Impeach Bush, they lied to us( and to you), everyones getting killed over there.
They would be run out of town, in WW11, which lasted 4 very long years - and yes- there were many times we seemed to be losing, and made mistakes, and had to retreat, which has not happened here and wont..
Military service is like that- years of training with no real bullets, months of sitting around some desolate place,
and a few hours or days of fighting like you never dreamed to save your butt.
So yes, provide the troops some rest, get the UN or others to help in Iraq, but stay in charge overall so they do not manage to snatch a defeat from the jaws of victory, like letting the wrong people into the new government..
Keep the UN, there is nothing equivalent for debating certain new rules of world conduct.
Meanwhile, planners can be busy year round, its their job and they love it.
Analyzing past operations, finding improvements, comparing tactics, and especially deciding how to approach the N Korean situation. Recognize that no matter what the US does or plans to do, there will be opponents at home and abroad.
Whatever is planned, it will require a sales job, mainly to the Congress, the voice of the people. Elected to do that very job.
For those who dont understand GWB, try to keep in mind that Political survival has not been his No 1 priority.
Hes got all the honor and glory a man could ask for- now can do for others.
No 1 has been to make America safer now and in the future, since we are spread out all over and therefore extremely vulnerable to terrorists. Alaska oil fields, Saudi oil fields, airlanes all over.
Does not mean he will sacrifice the "R" party, since a President has a lot less power in some matters than is commonly known, and needs the vote of party members ( and some others) to accomplish much.
Yes, the EU and NATO should have been participating in some manner in an operation as big as Iraq, what are they going to do -wait till there is a full blown War , and call on the US to help?
But above all, keep talking, look what happened when the UN and Saddam stopped talking - one or the other made a big mistake.
