One of the great recent examples of Talking Head silliness goes back to the March breakout, right before the onset of the Iraqi war. One day - suddenly - the markets started to rally. On TV, they are ready with an explanation: "(...whoever) said that there may not be a war. The markets rally on optimism that the war can be averted"

The same night Pres. Bush had a meeting with Tony Blair and the PM of Spain and made the final decisions about the war. The very next day markets were shooting for the sky even harder. The rationalization du jour? “Well, you see, the meeting removed all doubts that the war will indeed happen… And markets do not like… uncertainty”

I would love to find out whether these Talking Heads really believe any of the stuff they are saying… -g/ng
