Gulf of Tonkin, Watergate -- you would think that the White House would be smart enough to avoid doing it all again -- it seems that is too much to expect. I don't know if we will ever know the "truth", but when the truth manages to slip out, it paints a picture that makes us remember that we must be ever watchful that the power given to the President by the people is not there to be abused, and that the President of the United States must be accountable for his actions and the actions of his Administration. The ultimate authority rests with the American people and our opportunity to vote, but we are supposed to have other institutions of government to assist us in making sure that the power of the presidency is not abused or corrupted.
