We can temporarily conquer other nations. We can, for a brief time occupy their land. We can threaten countries with lesser armies and force them to kneel before us in humiliation and take their resources. History is full of these sad stories, swept away by the pleasure some men take in exercising power over others -- in this case, exercising "superpower". Hitler certainly held that view and was rightly defeated. But empires crumble.

You say we will not be defeated. But people have not changed. Power still corrupts and the powerless rise up against those who would lord power over them. America was strong not to give into the temptation to use power for conquest. We are wrong to be making our wish list of countries to invade and conquer now.
