I think we'd be fine in the US if it weren't for payroll taxes, which are too high. For a long time congress has loaded the federal tax burden onto these payroll taxes and made US companies and workers pay for it. What that does, is it attaches a heavy tax cost on every worker. This is a lot of the reason companies hired contractors even before offshoring was in vogue. Really these taxes should be general taxes just like we pay for defense or some other widespread benefit. But because this huge amt of $$ is attached to workers, companies don't want to hire, and if they need to hire, they don't want to hire here.

I pay more into that BS medicare plan than for my own insurance, now we have another HUGE entitlement with this drug plan. We have to dump these onto the general fund imho. Or get rid of them altogether.
