Maybe they plan to do it with lots of refurb equipment? As I recall ST fab's aren't huge. In my early days supporting equipment at AMAT I remember seeing rows and rows of Endura's at all the Intel sites, and was disappointed when I went to 2nd tier customers and saw only a few. You could probably start up a small line for dimes on the dollar right now. I also heard that there's enough aluminum metal capacity out there for the next few years, so if you don't need leading edge technology (copper, low-k, fine line width), why not go used?
