John, I don't know if that's what he meant either Perhaps the SPX was 4.3% lower a week after 4/19/02 (I didn't check, but it looks that way) but that doesn't jibe with the rest of his comment: he said one week after the VIX initially closed below 21, the SPX was lower and according to the chart it looks like the VIX initially closed below 21 about a month before 4/19. Thanks for your response, but I'm still confused about his comments.
