Manson seems to be doing alright. Got a comfy cell, a fan club. He has been able to inspire several generations of would-be killers. Gets to do tv spots every now and again. Last Manson interview I saw, he showed no remorse, nor did he show any signs of suffering.

On the other hand, Sharon Tate did not fare so well. Nor did Roman Polanski, or the LaBianca's. Nor did Carol Sund Wilson, or her daughter, nor did Polly Klaas, nor the multitude of other victims of cold-blooded killers.

There is no justice that can be given. No vengeance will right the wrong that was committed against these and other innocents. Capitol punishment is not about vengeance. It is about holding individuals accountable for their actions to the fullest extent possible. Under such difficult circumstances, death is the only way to do this. At least we show much more mercy to the killers than they showed their victims.

The anti-death penalty argument is fundamentally flawed because it is based either on the premise that individuals have no real control over their thoughts and behavior (aka B.F. Skinner behaviorism), or the premise that it is uncivilized (or both). Both premises are incorrect. We are moral creatures with a will, and we make choices. Further, a civilized must hold individuals accountable for their actions. When one shows such a reckless disregard for life, there is but one choice. They must be put to death.

Recently their has been a push to release "reformed" life-without-parole prisoners. The same bleeding hearts who today demand an end to the death penalty will, tomorrow, demand release of "reformed" lifers.
