Since the ideas attributed to Bush are generally unsupported by real evidence, it is a matter of personal bias, in most cases. Similarly, I keep seeing neoconservatives characterized in ways that have nothing to do with myself or anyone I know, personally or by their writings, who would be considered such. If what was attributed were true, or even a fair characterization of our ideas, I would say it was a matter of mere disagreement, but it is not, it is matter of grotesque bias.

As for the United States, it is again a matter of how one handles the data, and what assumptions one brings to the table. To take one example, our treatment of the Indians was bad enough without accusing us of genocide, which is insupportable and over the top. To take another example, many people act as if we invented racism, instead of being one of the most advanced countries in the world in grappling with the issue. Japan, Korea, and even good old France (outside the Left Bank) are far more racist than the United States. The total number of immigrants and their recent progeny in France is about 7 or 8 percent, and Le Pen has a lot of support, despite the fact that they are so few. In Germany, it is still easier for a person of German extraction whose family has lived in Russia for a couple of centuries to become a citizen than it is for a Turk who has worked there most of his adult life. But we are supposed to be the xenophobes? We are comparative models of enlightenment, and only someone with a prejudice against America would ignore such data.......
