Of course, that is one of the questions raised by the matter. The neo- Nazi phenomenon had some traction, although I do not know what its current state is. Also, the reunion of German dumped a bunch of Communists into the system, not only former apparatchiks, but voters, primarily in the Berlin area, the only section of East Germany where sentiment against reuniting ran high. One wonders what the undercurrent of fringe politics may be in Germany. In France, La Pen gained such a high percentage of the presidential vote that it caused alarm among the mainstream parties, a couple of years ago. Mussolini's granddaughter has gained some traction with an attempt to revive the Fascist Party. Certainly, most of these countries are not likely to stray far from the democratic fold, but they are not as removed from their fascist or communist pasts as one might like..........
