Bremer was on PBS News Hour last night. He said the basic electricity problem in Iraq is that the infrastructure produces 4,000 MW, but the need is for 6,000 MW and "it will take a very long time" to install the extra 2,000 MW.

What a bunch of BS! This is the kind of spin that makes me mad. There are literally scores of brand new ready to go peaker Natural Gas power plants in the US for sale at firesale prices (less than $200 per KW, so 2,000 MW will cost $400 million). 2,000 MW of peaker plants can be dismantled and installed in Iraq in a matter of a few months, if Bremer is willing to cut corners -- I don't think he will need environmental impact statements, for example. NG is practically free in Iraq, so satisfying the immediate power need with simple peaker plants is an excellent and very cheap way (we spend $400 million in Iraq every 3 DAYS) to fill the overwhelming power need. So why doesn't he do it? Why didn't Rumsfelf plan for it. We could have started dismantling and packing the plants when the war started and they would be very nearly ready to go by now.

This lack of forethought and planning is what makes me mad.
