Maybe this is why Slate is doing so poorly. eeee gads...a "tired cliche" indeed..... Freedom is a cornerstone of Liberty in America. How sad that Kinsley believes what he writes.

I've seen this opinion published before....sorry, can't remember off hand where, maybe in some communist literature <gg>.......but it only appeals to the A.N.S.W.E.R crowd. He alienates everyone else in America with that kind of rhetoric. the speech was built around a tired cliche -- the importance of freedom (how people yearn for it, how other cherished values depend on it, how it will triumph, and so on). Ya gotta love the first amendment. Hope your foot is better. M
