I think evolution also favors kin selection, group selection, and coevolution of competitors. This is particularly interesting and complex in terms of meme evolution (the evolution of ideas by the exchange of fragments of concepts). In these cases not only is the concept of kin or group different than for biological genes, but art of learning results in ideas which have many parents, not just two. I do not dispute that my own interest, desires, and experience have a role in my outlook. TP
