its all about our,USA, Global positioning of our Foreign Policy(which is unclear by design)with emphasis on Economic leverage and the Middle East Islamic Terror threat.
As in years past our, USA, economic well being is tied into the personal fortunes of several or more very wealthy, influential , prominent Americans and The Wall Street crowd.

The rich will become richer, the Power will remain with the rich, and "Trickle Down" benefits will allow the American Standard of Living to continue.

The beauty of it is that there is something of value for everyone, American or otherwise, to obtain if He or She is willing to work for it.

It is usually the immigrant or foreigner that takes advantage of all the wonderful opportunity that our system provides, they are more aware of and can readily see the advantages of our free society.

Hi NightOwl; Yes, the Stratfor article is rather badly edited, and has a number of badly written parts. Let me try rewriting that sentence you quoted in a way that is consistent with the rest of the article. My additions are in bold:

"The entire war effort [against Iraq] is based on the public's trust of the CIA's portrayal of the ongoing threat from [Saddam giving WMDs to] al Qaeda. If the CIA isn't to be trusted, why should anyone believe that al Qaeda is a threat [, and that they should therefore support possible US actions against Syria or Iran who also might give WMDs to Al Qaeda]?"

Re: "What is this Carl? Some kind of Beltway consulting contractor looking for work? A new political think tank, fishing for pre-election "study" commissions?"

Stratfor has been quoted on this thread many times:

George Fiedman runs the thing, he's regularly interviewed on CNN:

-- Carl

P.S. I'm on record as saying that Stratfor is basically a collection of idiots about the Iraq war, but that is primarily because I was certain that there was no way that Bush would make a mistake that big. Stratfor was not big on the Iraq war, they made huge errors in their speculation on what would happen in various countries, but they really weren't a cheerleader for the war. For example, see this interesting transcript:
cnn.com

I would put Stratfor as more tightly connected to the US military than to the civilian Pentagon controllers.
