There are so many cross currents right now. Sentiment is just another indicator that works until it doesn't.

I do not buy that argument that heavy put buying means that we have to go higher either. Large players realize that this market could turn on a dime and hedging is to be expected. If we spike higher even more puts may be bought.

My feeling is that the put buying does not indicate any level of real fear in this market as it might in most cases.

Would be interesting to know what part of this short interest is due to the shorting by John Q. Public - and what part is a consequence of selling by specialists/market makers/"commercials".
