Let's hope that the Iraqis view their own policemen as working for them, and not the Americans. The quicker we hand over real power to some Iraqi authority, the better.

I saw the figures once but forgot them. My MEMORY is that Iraq had something like 170,000 police before the war. Baghdad is a major city probably 24k wouldnt even be enough just for that city (anyone know how many are in NYC?) but at least its a start. My thinking, in order to get greatest possible use and some on the job training we intersperse Iraqis with US troops. Seeing us working together might help. But, remember, the really BAD GUYS are bad guys not only to USA but to the Iraqi's themselves. jdn
