Having the UN would legitimatize our occupation by turning it from a single country to a coalition of the world. It would remove one of the key issues that causes our troops to be attacked: a distrust of Bush and the US. It would allow others to share the burden, and not stretch our military too far. It would allow us to reconcentrate on the original issue: Al Qaeda. It would allow us to repair the rift between the US and the rest of the world. It would all Britain, and Blair, some relief, but removing some of the criticism that Blair is Bush's 'lap dog'.
