I always have to laugh at hardware guys like you. You think that true AI is just so much hardware away; smaller devices, more power, faster. Unfortunately, this just ain't the reality. If we possessed a computer than ran as fast as you liked right now, we'd be no nearer true AI because it is a software problem. Get it? Don't feel bad; your lack of understanding of software design and architecture is typical of hardware people. I could recommend some good books on software design; it's never too late to switch careers.
