One could get into some cloak and dagger type scenarios. All would be just speculative however. As a predictor it appears that you are creating an equation using the functions of price action, volume, the news itself and the way management parses out the news.

My guess is if management acts in ways to reinforce a price down move, allowing cheap accumulation by a potential acquirer this action is negative for shareholders despite the value of the companies technology or the ultimate disposition of the company.

I have seen evidence of management aiding the drive down in price before and it is not good for shareholders. Management is of course rewarded offline. Your technique attempts to determine this. There is some probabililty that SSPI management is playing this game, but too early to be sure imo.
