It was an attempt to express the ideas of data flow and thinking and planning before writing code. There was not 640 kbytes yet to handle clunky objects. And many engineers hand coded, assembled and then typed the code into a prom programmer. I had my own personal PC based upon 6800, z80 8080 and 6502 processors with incircuit emulation that made for much faster code development. A real screen based editor in not a serial line editor.

It was amazing what 25,000 buck would buy. I still have my z80 development system, It was 30k when it was bought. It most likely still works. Merlin still does...
