Well, the Liberation BS is not exactly BS if you've been liberated. It may have been a side-benefit, but it was real enough. The same people who want us to go into Liberia and other benighted places seem to think that doing great humanitarian service doesn't count if you have any ulterior motives, so we should only send troops into places where no national interest is involved.

Upstream is an excellent article detailing how the Neocons shot their hegemony plan in the foot by neglecting to share it honestly with the public, there to argue its possible merits.


As I said before, if the Neocons had discussed their Mideast "urban renewal" aims more frankly with the American people, it might have helped domestically, but it would have trashed any chances of getting cooperation from any Arab countries - and yes, we did get some, esp. from Kuwait, Jordan, Qattar and Bahrain. So they didn't.
