We were talking about books earlier this week- and I'm half way through a really wonderful book called Daughters of Britannia- the Lives and Times of Diplomatic Wives by Katie Hickman. It's written by a woman who was the child of an ambassador, and it's just the most marvelous read. Many of the wives in this book lived in embassies in countries much in the news today. The dates covered range from 1661 to 1995.

This book is extremely entertaining, and still packed with tons of fascinating information- much of it first hand accounts by former diplomatic wives, taken from their private memoirs and letters. I got this book in the bargain section at Barnes and Noble- I think it was 4.99- whatever it cost, it was a huge bargain.
