Does any war opponent have an alternative course of action which would have gotten rid of Saddam's reign of terror over Iraq? Note - I'm looking only for real world present day ideas - not make-believe fantasies which would require going back in time decades to implement. No alternate history scenarios in other words.

I'm asking because of all the things we know about Saddam's regimes - the numerous mass graves, the "conservative estimate" of 300,000 civilian casulties of the regime mentioned by a UN official recently, the horror stories which are recounted both by surviving victims and regime henchmen - like the recent ones told by one of Uday's bodyguards involving the feeding live people to lions.

Other than saying "SWAVBM" what do war critics have to say about how this could have been put to an end? Or is SWAVBM it?
