Yes, but that's a longterm solution. Look how long it took the Russians, to figure out that a command economy was never going to catch up economically with the U.S. And how long it took the Chinese to figure out that Mao Thought wouldn't fill the rice bowl.

In the meantime, Containment is a lot more realistic than Regime Change. I'm hoping this cost/benefit analysis has already been done, in Washington, and nobody is seriously thinking about doing any more Regime Change. The problem is, a destabilization campaign can escalate, or make the target desperate enough to do desperate things.
