I would start discussions with the 1948 borders....the ultimate goal is to close down the whole colony and create a democratic government comprising Arabs; Christian, Muslim and other, and Jews, real and secular.

Good for you. Now let's see whether the Israeli government really wants peace, or land. Isn't it ironic that what was thought would be of greatest benefit to Israel, will eventually become its greatest danger? Namely dragging the USA into this swamp of alligators.
If the Palestineans have any sense, they'll pacify their militants. They won't need them when the sheriff hits town. Of course, they may not have any sense. It only takes a few nuts.
